Where is Amazon Rainforest Located?
The Amazon Rainforest, also known as the Amazon Basin, is one of the most iconic and diverse ecosystems on Earth. Covering an area of approximately 6.7 million square kilometers, it spans across nine countries in South America. This vast and vibrant rainforest is located primarily in Brazil, which accounts for about 60% of its total area. The remaining portions are spread across Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.
The Amazon Rainforest is situated in the northwestern part of South America, stretching from the Andes Mountains in the west to the Atlantic Ocean in the east. It extends from the northernmost point of Colombia to the southernmost part of Brazil, making it the largest tropical rainforest in the world. This geographical location has allowed the Amazon to thrive and become a habitat for an estimated 10% of all known species on the planet. The rich biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest includes countless plant and animal species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth.
