How to Connect Netgear WiFi Extender to New Router

Introducing a new router to your home network can be an exciting time, as it often brings improved connectivity and performance. However, setting up a Netgear WiFi extender to work with your new router can sometimes be a daunting task. In this article, we will guide you through the process of connecting your Netgear WiFi extender to your new router step by step.

Before You Begin

Before you start connecting your Netgear WiFi extender to your new router, make sure you have the following items ready:

1. A Netgear WiFi extender
2. A new router
3. An Ethernet cable
4. A power outlet for the extender
5. A computer or mobile device connected to your existing WiFi network

Step 1: Position Your Netgear WiFi Extender

The first step in connecting your Netgear WiFi extender to your new router is to position it correctly. Place the extender in a central location, away from walls and large metal objects, to ensure optimal coverage. Make sure the extender is within range of your router but not too close, as this may cause interference.

Step 2: Connect the Netgear WiFi Extender to Your Router

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect one end to the WAN/Internet port on your Netgear WiFi extender and the other end to an available LAN port on your new router.
2. Plug the extender into a power outlet and wait for it to boot up. The indicator lights on the extender should turn on.
3. Connect your computer or mobile device to the extender’s WiFi network using the default SSID and password, which can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the extender or in the Netgear installation guide.

Step 3: Access the Netgear Extender Setup Page

1. Open a web browser on your connected device and enter the default IP address for your Netgear WiFi extender, which is usually 192.168.1.250, into the address bar.
2. Press Enter, and you should be prompted to enter a username and password. The default username is “admin,” and the default password is also “admin.”
3. Once logged in, you will be taken to the Netgear Genie Setup page.

Step 4: Connect Your Extender to Your Router

1. In the Netgear Genie Setup page, click on the “Connect” button under the “Setup” section.
2. Select your new router from the list of available networks and enter the network key or password.
3. Click “Next” to proceed. The extender will search for the best placement and configuration to provide optimal coverage.

Step 5: Complete the Setup

1. Once the extender has successfully connected to your router, you will see a confirmation message on the screen.
2. Click “Finish” to complete the setup process. Your Netgear WiFi extender is now connected to your new router and should be providing extended coverage throughout your home.

By following these simple steps, you can easily connect your Netgear WiFi extender to your new router and enjoy a stronger, more reliable WiFi signal throughout your home.
